Arbor Day 2014
East Street School
May 2ndth, 2014

As Posted on the East Street School's Web Page

The rain outside couldn’t dampen the spirits of the East Street students when the Arbor Day Celebration was moved inside to the cafeteria, due to the rain. As one 1st grade student from Mrs. Agulair’s classroom said “It’s ok, the trees outside get thirsty and need the rain to drink.” This wonderful optimistic spirit was contagious on Wednesday morning, April 30th, as students gathered for this special event that was coordinated by the Ludlow Department of Public Works, with Mr. Jim Goodreau, the Assistant Town Engineer for Ludlow as the Master of Ceremonies.

The event included the  Presentation of Colors by three members of the Ludlow Veterans Color Guard, a reading of the Arbor Day Proclamation by Mr. Manuel D. Silva, Chairman of the Ludlow Board of Selectmen and with student participation including singing the songs “This Land is Your Land” and “The Trees Are Growing” along with a reading of the Arbor Day Poem by Susan M. Paprocki.  The event concluded with a special presentation of Red Maple tree saplings for each of the students to bring home and plant in their yards.  Each of the students were very excited when they received their sapling, with one student telling Principal Welch, “I hope my tree grows to be as tall as you!”

A BIG THANK YOU to the Ludlow Department of Public Works for not only their donation of the saplings (purchased from the Arbor Day Association), but also for donating and planting a magnificent Red Oak Tree on the playground area for everyone to enjoy.  To view pictures and videos from this event please click on the video below.
